resistencia de bacterias a los antibi\u00f3ticos es una de las grandes amenazas sanitarias en el futuro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Redacci\u00f3n Informante<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entre 2018 y 2023 la&nbsp;<strong>resistencia<\/strong>&nbsp;de las&nbsp;<strong>bacterias<\/strong>&nbsp;a los&nbsp;<strong>antibi\u00f3ticos<\/strong>, a menudo fruto del mal uso de \u00e9stos,&nbsp;<strong>aument\u00f3<\/strong>&nbsp;un 40 por ciento, o un promedio anual de entre el 5 y el 15 por ciento, advirti\u00f3 la&nbsp;<strong>Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud<\/strong>&nbsp;(<strong>OMS<\/strong>), que considera este fen\u00f3meno una de las grandes amenazas sanitarias del futuro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seg\u00fan los&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/publications\/i\/item\/9789240116337\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00faltimos datos reportados por GLASS<\/a>, el sistema de supervisi\u00f3n de resistencia a los antimicrobianos de la OMS, una de cada seis infecciones de las bacterias a las que esta red est\u00e1 haciendo un seguimiento mostraron resistencia a tratamientos con antibi\u00f3ticos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La situaci\u00f3n es especialmente alarmante en regiones como&nbsp;<strong>\u00c1frica<\/strong>, donde una de cada cinco infecciones mostr\u00f3 resistencia a los antibi\u00f3ticos, o en&nbsp;<strong>Asia<\/strong>&nbsp;y&nbsp;<strong>Oriente Medio<\/strong>, donde la tasa es de una de cada tres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para el estudio se testaron 22 antibi\u00f3ticos utilizados comunmente para infecciones del tracto urinario, el gastrointestinal, el sistema sangu\u00edneo o para tratar la gonorrea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En \u00e9l se pone a prueba la resistencia de ocho bacterias igualmente frecuentes en ese tipo de infecciones, entre ellas la E.coli, la salmonela, el estafilococo aureus o el estreptococo pneumoniae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cLa resistencia a los antimicrobianos est\u00e1 creciendo a un ritmo m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que los avances de la medicina moderna\u201d, advirti\u00f3 al presentarse el estudio el director general de la OMS,&nbsp;<strong>Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Esa resistencia a antimicrobianos, que incluye la de bacterias a antibi\u00f3ticos pero tambi\u00e9n la de virus a antivirales o la de hongos a los fungicidas, influye en casi cinco millones de muertes anuales por infecciones, y se considera causa directa en 1.27 millones de casos, seg\u00fan los datos de la OMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las bacterias que seg\u00fan la agencia sanitaria de la ONU est\u00e1n mostrando cada vez mayor resistencia a los antibi\u00f3ticos son la E.coli y la Klebsiella pneumoniae, dos de los pat\u00f3genos con mayor riesgo de infecciones graves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00e1s del 40 por ciento de las bacterias E.coli estudiadas y un 55 % de las K.Pneumoniae son resistentes a cefalosporinas de tercera generaci\u00f3n, el antibi\u00f3tico m\u00e1s habitual para responder a las infecciones que causan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La resistencia a antibi\u00f3ticos de amplio uso obliga a recurrir a otros de \u00faltimo recurso, a menudo costosos, o de dif\u00edcil acceso en los pa\u00edses en desarrollo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una de las pocas noticias positivas del estudio es que cada vez m\u00e1s pa\u00edses est\u00e1n colaborando en \u00e9l, con 104 pa\u00edses participantes en la \u00faltima edici\u00f3n frente a solo 25 en 2016, aunque a\u00fan faltan por unirse un 48 por ciento de las redes sanitarias de los Estados miembros de la OMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La organizaci\u00f3n insiste en que una de las claves para combatir este fen\u00f3meno es abstenerse de usar antibi\u00f3ticos para cualquier infecci\u00f3n bacteriana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Los pacientes no deben pensar que tener fiebre es ya una raz\u00f3n para recibir un antibi\u00f3tico, y deben confiar en su m\u00e9dico o profesional sanitario\u201d, destac\u00f3 al presentar los datos el director del Departamento de Resistencia Antimicrobiana de la OMS,<strong>&nbsp;Yvan Hutin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Las vacunas y normas sencillas de higiene, como el frecuente lavado de manos, son otras armas para prevenir las infecciones bacterianas, record\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La OMS subray\u00f3 que sus problemas financieros actuales -fruto entre otros factores de la salida de Estados Unidos de la organizaci\u00f3n- han obligado a reducir el personal de la agencia encargado de estudiar la resistencia antimicrobiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otra mala noticia para la lucha contra esta amenaza sanitaria es la reciente clausura del Fleming Fund, importante iniciativa del Reino Unido en este
