El jitomate mexicano representa cerca del 70 por ciento de los tomates frescos que se consumen en Estados Unidos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Legisladores y productores de tomate de Florida, con el 70 por ciento de esta cosecha en Estados Unidos, celebran el nuevo arancel<\/strong> del 17 por ciento al jitomate<\/strong> mexicano, mientras congresistas y asociaciones de estados fronterizos, como Texas y Arizona, alertan de hasta 47 mil empleos en riesgo y un encarecimiento del 50 por ciento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Florida Tomato Exchange (FTE), agrupaci\u00f3n de productores que ha liderado la demanda contra el \u2018dumping\u2019 mexicano, aplaudi\u00f3 que Washington se retirara del Acuerdo de Suspensi\u00f3n de Tomate (TSA), al denunciar que las importaciones de este fruto desde M\u00e9xico se han \u201cdisparado\u201d casi 400 por ciento en los \u00faltimos 20 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cEsta decisi\u00f3n proteger\u00e1 a los laboriosos agricultores de tomate estadounidenses de las injustas pr\u00e1cticas comerciales mexicanas y mandar\u00e1 una fuerte se\u00f1al de que la Administraci\u00f3n Trump est\u00e1 comprometida a garantizar mercados justos\u201d, expuso Robert Guenther, vicepresidente de la FTE, en un pronunciamiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La reimposici\u00f3n de aranceles al jitomate<\/strong> de M\u00e9xico era prioridad para pol\u00edticos de Florida, que en 2024 produjo un valor estimado de casi 331 millones de d\u00f3lares del fruto, seg\u00fan datos del Departamento de Agricultura de Estados Unidos (USDA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El senador floridano republicano Rick Scott, quien lider\u00f3 las voces en el Congreso contra el TSA, en vigor desde hace 28 a\u00f1os, culp\u00f3 al acuerdo de que la participaci\u00f3n de mercado del tomate estadounidense haya ca\u00eddo al 30 por ciento del nivel previo de 80 por ciento en 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe estado trabajando para proteger a los agricultores floridanos por a\u00f1os. La Administraci\u00f3n Biden (2021-2025) no hizo nada para detener el \u2018dumping\u2019 de tomates. Gracias al presidente y a Howard Lutnick (secretario de Comercio) por tomar acci\u00f3n y poner a los agricultores estadounidenses primero\u201d, expuso en redes sociales el exgobernador de Florida (2011-2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pero empresarios de otros estados rechazaron el impuesto, como la Texas International Produce Association (TIPA), que alert\u00f3 de 47 mil empleos en riesgo al citar que 952 mil 544 millones de kilogramos cruzaron la frontera tejana desde M\u00e9xico en 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El presidente de la TIPA, Dante Galeazzi, estim\u00f3 en 8 mil 300 millones de d\u00f3lares el impacto a la econom\u00eda estadounidense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLos jitomates mexicanos representan cerca del 70 por ciento de los tomates frescos que se consumen en este pa\u00eds. Si inmediatamente eres incapaz de que ese 70 por ciento de la oferta acceda al mercado, esos precios van a subir\u201d, expres\u00f3 Galeazzi en una rueda de prensa en McAllen con legisladores de ambos partidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El senador Rub\u00e9n Gallego, dem\u00f3crata de Arizona, tambi\u00e9n denunci\u00f3 efectos inmediatos \u201cporque el impuesto al tomate de Trump ya entr\u00f3 en vigor\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEn un momento en el que las familias ya est\u00e1n batallando para comprar abarrotes, los precios en los productos de tomate podr\u00edan dispararse hasta un 50 por ciento. Este es un impuesto para la gente trabajadora, simple y llanamente\u201d, coment\u00f3 el legislador en sus redes sociales tras el anuncio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La presidenta de M\u00e9xico, Claudia Sheinbaum, sostuvo que el jitomate mexicano seguir\u00e1 export\u00e1ndose \u201ca\u00fan con el arancel porque\u00a0no tiene sustituto\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
